In situ recovery should double in Poza Rica

Poza Rica, the biggest Mexican oil field, is receiving a revitalizing injection that tends to increase its productivity. The giant secondary-recovery project started in 1951, when an injection-front was established along the N. flank of the field. At the end of 1962, after reconsidering the field conditions, Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) decided to modify the original injection front and created 2 new ones. These new fronts permit a better control by zones of the water movement inside the reservoir and it is expected that by 1966 the results will start to show up. Total recovery of the oil in situ is expected to reach 48% against 22 to 24% before the waterflood. Cumulative production of Poza Rica, as of July 1964, was over 136,000,000 bbl. Poza Rica's waterflood is still in the initial, filling stage. The water being injected will soon reach a daily rate of 200,000 bbl.
