Power-system-transient stability analysis by using the direct method of Lyapunov
The direct method of Lyapunov is applied to the problem of power-system transient stability using a Lyapunov function describing the system's transient energy. An efficient algorithm for determining the critical stability region of the system for a given disturbance is described. Also the use of the Newton-Raphson method to determine the exact unstable equilibrium points for evaluating the critical clearing time is suggested. This approach provides a systematic method of eliminating the unstable equilibrium points (based on one-machine infinite bus) which are of no interest in the search for the critical region of stability and the critical clearing time. Numerical results of the test study are also included.
