Technical report:An input-output framework is a particularly useful tool for projecting alternative levels of world demand for nonfuel minerals based on alternative sets of assumptions concerning population growth, changing patterns of personal consumption, technological change, increasing rates of economic growth in developing countries, varying rates or recycling, and limitations on U. S. dependence on imported materials. An input-output model incorporating the flows of and the inputs into 26 non-fuel mineral sectors is being developed to project the production and consumption of these minerals to 2000. The model will embody the special characteristics of the minerals industries regarding capital requirements, recycling, by- products, and energy requirements. (5 references, 6 tables)
