Measurement of sigma-plus formation at 180 degrees by negative kaons near 700 MeV/c

The author has measured the cross section for the reaction K/sup -/p ..-->.. ..sigma../sup +/ ..pi../sup -/ at incident kaon momenta of 642, 663, 681, 715, and 739 MeV/c. The results are concentrated in the kinematic region defined by COS(Theta/sub K-..pi../) > ).95. A comparison of the results with published partial wave analyses is made and the implications for the resonances in the mass region 1660 MeV/c/sup 2/ are discussed.
