Impact drilling and cutting removing tool
This impact-type drilling tool, which has a tapered or wedge-shaped bit, is used to drill up and remove lost objects of various kinds or to remove bridge plugs from wells. The tool has a tubular barrel with an impact bit connected to its lower end. A plunger within the barrel can be lifted and dropped to cause drilling action of the bit. The plunger has a number of piston rings which seal against the inner walls of the barrel. A valve cage and valve are located at the upper end of the lower portion of the plunger just above the sealing rings. The bit has an internally reduced portion which forms a valve seat for a flapper-type valve. The bit has a lateral passageway which opens into the valve seat. Cuttings from the bit pass through the valves into the chamber portion of the barrel where they are retained until the tool is withdrawn. (1 claim)
