Energy crisis and the environment: an international perspective. [political analysis of trade-offs]

Book ·
OSTI ID:6691845
This study examines the relationship between energy and environmental policies both as an inquiry into the question of whether the 1973 crisis resulted in substantial rollbacks of environmental protection--the separate chapters show surprising results that ran counter to the authors' original estimates--and as an examination of the energy-environment nexus as an important study of the adaptation of political institutions and cultures to new and potentially disruptive issues. The book represents a political analysis of policymaking on energy and environmental questions, with special attention to the conflict among industrial, environmental, and governmental interests in hammering out acceptable trade-offs between two important and conflicting priorities. The countries studied run the gamut from industrial superpowers to developing third-world nations. A separate abstract was prepared for each of the 10 chapters.
