Forbidden transitions in the /sup 40/Ca(/sup 15/N,/sup 16/O)/sup 39/K reaction and the L = 1 problem

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Cross sections of the /sup 40/Ca(/sup 15/N,/sup 16/O)/sup 39/K reaction were measured and analyzed. The transition of the 9/2/sup -/ state, which is of weak-coupling nature, is shown to provide an excellent test of coupled-channel Born-approximation theory and the coupled-channel Born-approximation theory analysis for the L = 1 problem in the /sup 40/Ca(/sup 13/C,/sup 14/N reaction. Calculated two-step contributions to the L = 1 transitions in the (/sup 15/N,/sup 16/O) reaction are large enough to affect the phases of their angular distributions.
