Theory of envelope solitons of electromagnetic waves

The envelope solitons of electromagnetic waves in a nonisothermal plasma are analyzed. The ponderomotive nonlinearity, relativistic effects in the hydrodynamic motion of the plasma, and the nonlinearity which results from the relativistic electron velocity distribution are all taken into account. The regions in which small-amplitude solitons exist are determined for various plasma temperatures. These solitons are of the nature of either compression or rarefaction waves.
