Parallel algorithms for photon transport Monte Carlo

Parallel algorithms have been developed for photon transport Monte Carlo analysis. The first algorithm (PSPHOT) is intended for multiple scalar processors and the second (PVPHOT) is intended for multiple vector processors. These codes are parallel versions of the scalar and vector codes SPHOT and VPHOT, which analyze photon transport in a two-dimensional Lagrangian mesh. Peak parallelization efficiencies have been predicted for PSPHOT on the IBM 3090 (Sierra) and for PVPHOT on the Cray X/MP by simulating their operation on the corresponding uniprocessor. In addition, actual timing results from a dedicated run on the two-processor IBM 3090/200 have been obtained for PSPHOT.
