The Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation (PNC) of Japan has been engaged in a wide range of research and development (R D) in the well-balanced nuclear fuel cycle technologies. Nuclear material in all PNC's facilities have been subject to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards. At the same time, PNC has developed various kinds of safeguards technologies under international cooperation programs for more than 20 yr so that the IAEA can implement safeguards effectively and efficiently. This paper summarizes PNC activities, technologies, and cooperative programs involving safeguards. 1 ref.
