In-situ acid neutralization system solves facility upset problems

Conference · · Soc. Pet. Eng. AIME, Pap.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6669211

Severe emulsion upsets in surface treating facilities have historically occurred following mud acid stimulation treatments. These costly upsets appear to be caused by unspent acid. An in situ acid neutralization system has been developed and successfully field tested. The system controls the pH of the return fluids and in doing so, drastically reduces the emulsifying tendency of these fluids. In all 10 field tests to date, no facility upsets have been encouraged in an area where acid upsets are common.
