Solar Pilot Plant Conceptual Design Report. Steam Generator Subsystem Research Experiment. Phase I, CDRL Item No. 4

Technical Report ·
DOI:https://doi.org/10.2172/6659568· OSTI ID:6659568
A 5 MW(th) model of the steam generator will be constructed and tested to ascertain with a high degree of confidence that future larger-scale units are feasible and practical. The steam generator design, components, and test plans are described in detail. The primary objective of the subsystem research experiment is to validate the pilot plant concept and to gain knowledge and experience which can be applied to the pilot plant preliminary design. Consideration is also given to the characteristics implied for larger commercial systems. The feasibility of generating steam as a working fluid in a steam generator heated by redirected and concentrated solar flux from a collector field will be verified. The working fluid must be conditioned and provide the required flow, pressure, and temperature conditions required for efficient operation of a turbine-generator set operating with a Rankin cycle.
