Effect of the type composition of briquetted coal mixtures on coke strength

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6659031
The paper is concerned with partially briquetted charges containing a high proportion of weakly caking coals. Laboratory tests were carried out using charges containing 30% briquetted material. The briquettes were made from different proportions of fat coal, gas coal, and low-volatile caking coal plus lean coal blend. A total of 9 variations in composition were used. A petroleum bitumen binder formed 8% of the briquetted charge (2.4% of the mass of the total charge). Coke strengths were examined and it was concluded that the fat coal proportion should be varied to suit the amount of gas coal or low-volatile plus lean coal introduced into the charge.
