Corrosion of thin metal films has been monitored (real-time) both in gaseous environments and in solution using acoustic wave sensors. A surface acoustic wave (SAW) was used to monitor corrosion in gaseous environments, while a horizontally polarized shear wave (HPSW) allowed measurement in liquid environments. The devices, which have 32 ..mu..m transducer periodicity, were fabricated on ST-cut quartz substrates.
