Eastman's new gamble: chemicals from coal

An account is given of the Eastman project at Kingsport, Tennessee, to produce acetic anhydride from coal. The 500 million lb/year plant is now in its shake-down phase. Two Texaco gasifiers provide the initial synthesis gas. A flow diagram of the process is shown.
