Land treatment of synfuel organic sludges

Journal Article · · J. Environ. Eng. (N.Y.); (United States)
Results are presented from studies on land disposal of sludges from coal conversion processes and from an oil refinery separator. Tabulated data are included on the chemical composition of the sludges and of the leachates generated. The biodegradability of the sludges in the soil was assessed. Land disposal would be effective for the relatively small volume of organic sludges produced from the manufacture of synthetic fuels, provided that the disposal area is correctly designed with facilities for collection and treatment of runoff.
