Biodegradation of refinery oily waste through land application

Conference · · 72nd AIChE Annu. Meet. Prepr.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5397724
A discussion of the disposal of refinery oily waste by land farming covers the fundamental concept, the relative biodegradability of hydrocarbons, and design of a refinery land farm, including the waste generation survey of refinery sludges to be disposed of and their suitability for land farming, area requirements as determied by volume of waste oil, soil type, and number of farming season months, site selection and preparation to maximize oil degradation and prevent ground-water contamination, waste application and mixing, and soil parameters, e.g., nutrients, water retention, pH, and salinity.
