To determine the origin of injected water showing up in a producing well in a waterflood system in Poza Rica, analysis was made of the use of several possible tracers; fluorescein (also termed sodium fluorescein, sodium resorcinolphthalein, uranine, etc.); methyl red; congo red; methylene blue. Methly red was filtered out too quickly; congo red lost its color in contact with limestone even more quickly; methylene blue tended to plug the limestone permeability; fluorescin, however, was found both technically satisfactory as a tracer and economic.
