Production of purified anthracene by liquid extraction at a pilot plant

Journal Article · · Coke Chem. USSR (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6646955
Extraction was carried out in two stages, the second liquid extraction stage being conducted in a two column counterflow layout employing crank-oscillated plates to enlarge the contact surface. Optimum column feed rate was 60-75 l/h (operating temperature 90C) which yielded 98% anthracene. In the white spirit regeneration stage, the vat still should be operated at 200-220 C. It is acceptable to regenerate white spirit and dimethylacetamide conjointly, giving white spirit bottom product from a feed comprising one part acetamide and two parts spirit. The anthracene product was fully up to the standard demanded for anthraquinone production.
