Nuclear charge radii and nuclear moments of neutron deficient Ba isotopes from high resolution laser spectroscopy

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev., C; (United States)
Isotope shifts and hyperfine structure of the BaI 6s/sup 2/ /sup 1/S/sub 0/-6s6p /sup 1/P/sub 1/ transitions (lambda = 553.6 ..nu../sub n/) in neutron deficient Ba nuclides (N < 82) have been investigated by observing the resonance fluorescense in a well collimated atomic beam with a high resolution tunable CW dye laser. The experiments aimed at information on nuclear charge radii and on nuclear moments. Results are presented for the radioactive isotopes and isomers /sup 133/Ba/sup g/, /sup 133/Ba/sup m/, /sup 131/Ba, /sup 128/Ba, in addition to remeasurements of all stable Ba nuclides. The extracted values of delta, the observed odd-even staggering and the nuclear moments are discussed in the light of other theoretical and experimental nuclear structure studies of the region 50 < or = (Z,N) < or = 82.
