Methods for measuring atomic cadmium concentration and excited atomic helium density in the He--Cd laser discharge

A method for measuring the absolute values of the density of cadmium atoms and of excited helium atoms in the positive column of the discharge of a cataphoretic He--Cd laser based on determining the ratio of the intensity of spectral lines measured along and across the discharge tube is proposed. The proposed method does not require measuring the absolute values of the intensities of the lines. The results of measuring the concentration of the cadmium atoms in the ground state and four excited states of the helium atoms in the discharge of a cataphoretic He--Cd laser attest to the great possibilities of the proposed method.
