Calculation of cascade lasing due to 00/sup 0/1--02/sup 0/0--01/sup 1/0 transitions in CO/sub 2/ molecules pumped by a pulsed gas discharge

A report is given of the results of detailed calculations of the specific output energy of cascade lasing due to 00/sup 0/1--02/sup 0/0--01/sup 1/0 transitions in CO/sub 2/ molecules pumped by a pulsed gas discharge. The results are given as a function of the initial temperature, pressure, composition of the gas mixture, rate of Q switching of the resonator, and degree of excitation of the CO/sub 2/(..nu../sub 3/) molecules. Under practical conditions the specific output energy at the wavelength of 16.2 ..mu.. may amount to 0.2--0.5 J/liter.
