beta. -. gamma. circular-polarization correlations for first-forbidden. beta. transitions in /sup 76/As and /sup 124/Sb

The ..beta..-..gamma.. circular-polarization correlations P/sub ..gamma../ associated with the 1.753 MeV and 2.42 MeV ..beta.. transitions of /sup 76/As and with the 2.31 MeV ..beta.. transition of /sup 124/Sb have been measured as an average over the respective energy intervals E/sub ..beta../ = 0.56 to 1.4 MeV; E/sub ..beta../ = 1.4 to 2.1 MeV, and E/sub ..beta../ = 1.66 to 2.31 MeV. Two ..beta.. detectors, one at an instrument angle theta*/sub 1/ = 135/sup 0/ and the other at theta*/sub 2/ = 150/sup 0/, were employed in these measurements. On the assumption that the A/sub 3/ term in P/sub ..gamma../ is negligible compared to the A/sub 1/ term, the experimental data give the following values for the respective P/sub ..gamma../: P/sub ..gamma../ (/sup 76/As: 0.56 MeV < E/sub ..beta../ < 1.4 MeVm E/sub ..gamma../ = 0.559, theta/sub betagamma/ = 180/sup 0/) = 0.75 +- 0.6, P/sub ..gamma../ (/sup 76/AS: 1.4 MeV < E/sub ..beta../b < 2.1 MeV, E/sub ..gamma../ = 1.216 MeV, theta/sub betagamma/ = 180/sup 0/) = 0.11 +- 0.05, P/sub ..gamma../ (/sup 124/Sb: 1.66 MeV < E/sub ..beta../ < 2.31 MeV, E/sub ..gamma../ = 0.603 MeV, theta/sub betagamma/ = 135/sup 0/) = 0.47 +- 0.07, and P/sub ..gamma../ (/sup 124/Sb: 1.66 MeV < E/sub ..beta../ < 2.31 MeV, E/sub ..gamma../ = 0.603 MeV, theta/sub betagamma/ = 150/sup 0/) = 0,58 +- 0.08.
