This patent describes a middle distillate fuel oil composition characterized by improved color stability which comprises a major portion of a middle distillate fuel oil; and an effective fuel color stabilizing and particulate reducing portion of an additive prepared by reacting (i) an acid hydrolyzed and ethoxylated phoshosulfurized polyisobutene, (ii) a rare earth metal compound, and (iii) an alkyl carbitol.
