Structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins
In this volume, investigators present new findings on the structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins and on the role of nucleic acid-protein interactions in the regulation of gene expression. The major areas of emphasis are the structure of nucleic acids and proteins; nucleic acid-protein interactions; transcriptional regulatory mechanisms; DNA replication and viral gene expression; and gene expression in various systems. The state-of-the-art coverage includes structural studies using advanced techniques such as X-ray crystallography and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. Detailed analyses of protein-nucleic acid interactions address questions ranging from how an enzyme or regulatory protein finds a specific site on the DNA to how the binding of such proteins influences gene regulation and cell differentiation. Contributors explore the complex interrelationships among processes occurring inside the cell such as replication, transcription, recombination, and DNA repair.
