Propping-agent spacer effective in gas-well fracturing

Oil-soluble propping-agent spacers have shown good results in 15 Basin Dakota Field gas wells in the Four Corners area of New Mexico. Initial potentials of the wells fractured with the spaced props averaged 5358 Mcfd--19% more than the average of 4487 Mcfd in offset wells fractured with unspaced props. A table shows how these 15 gas condensate wells responded to fracture treatment. Spacing of the props with an oil-soluble material provides a positive means of obtaining an optimum partial monolayer distribution of the propping agent in the fracture--resulting in higher fracture capacity and well productivity. The partial monolayer distribution is obtained by mixing a soluble spacer material with the propping agent and then placing the mixture in the fracture. The desired partial layer results because the spacer material readily dissolves in the produced well fluids.
