The 59 economies summarized here, and detailed in this series of Energy Detente reports, consume three-fourths of the world's energy. These countries run the gamut from very poor to very wealthy, and different circumstances nearly always dictate different perceptions. But it turns out that, rich or poor, the fundamental realities are the same. This issue also contains the following: (1) ED refining netback data series for the US Gulf and the West Coasts, Rotterdam, and Singapore for late August 1988; and (2) ED fuel price/tax series for countries of the Eastern Hemisphere, August 1988 edition. 12 figures, 4 tables.
