Educating the public about the Health and Welfare Risks Associated with ground-level ozone. Technical report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6614251
The report is part of the National Network for Environmental Management Studies under the auspices of the Office of Cooperative Environmental Management of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The NNEMS research project recommends ways to increase media coverage of the poisonous ozone problem. Current media fails to discriminate between good ozone (stratospheric) and poisonous ozone (tropospheric) creating public confusion. Initial recommendation encourages the Agency to add an adjective to the word ozone to communicate a clear, powerful message vividly depicting the harmful distinction. EPA's poisonous ozone communications campaign hinges largely on its ability to capitalize on free media resources and educational institutions. A media kit developed for press members will facilitate television, radio and newspaper coverage of the summer ozone problem. The kits can be distributed at an EPA news conference directed at the poisonous ozone problem.
