Testing of personnel dosimetry devices for hazard evaluation of solvent refined coal droplet aerosols

Journal Article · · Am. Ind. Hyg. Assoc. J.; (United States)
The size-separating capabilities of the Andersen 4-stage mini-cascade impactor and the BDX cyclone separator were evaluated against an Andersen 8-stage ambient cascade impactor in an aerosol exposure chamber. Performance of the Andersen mini-impactor was excellent and provided accurate measurements of mass median aerodynamic diameters, geometric standard deviations and respirable mass fractions of the aerosols. Cyclone separator efficiency curves were in good agreement with ACGIH criteria for respirable particles, but this separator did not provide as much information on size distribution as the cascade impactor. 20 references.
