Concrete gravity platform designed for deep water

The new CONDEEP T-300 concrete gravity platform is an integral part of Statoil's plan for developing a gas field located above the Arctic Circle in 790 ft of water. A platform structure with maximum stiffness and minimum exposure to environmental loads, the T-300 was developed from two fundamental design provisions: (1) a special slipforming technique for constructing three inclined platform legs and (2) an available deepwater construction site with a 720-ft allowable towout draft. Water depth, soil conditions, topside weight during towout, mechanical outfitting requirements (such as conductors, risers, and J-tubes), oil storage volume, and environmental conditions comprise the concept's main design parameters. In operation, the platform behaves as a space frame with a cantilevered tower. Future prospects for the T-300 will depend on two factors: market opportunities and the competitiveness of concrete platforms.
