This report deals with the subcommittee hearing on natural gas import issues with Sen. Charles H. Percy, chairman. Last fall, consumers throughout Illinois began paying for imported Canadian gas. In March, consumers in the central and southern part of the state began paying for imported liquefied natural gas at prices almost three times that of domestically available gas. Canada has begun to realize that its border price is too high, and has implemented a 31% cut in price. The role of Canada in gas trade with the US is discussed. A chart is included with data showing the average pipeline acquisition prices of domestic vs imported gas prices.
