One of the deepest (perhaps the deepest) well completion assignments ever undertaken by a self-contained hydraulic snubbing unit was in progress during Feb. in the snowbound Southwest Mills Ranch area of Wheeler County in the Texas Panhandle. The site was Arkla Exploration Co.'s No. 1-36 Davidson in Sect. 36, Block A-7, HandGN Survey near the town of Shamrock, where a hole was drilled to 22,250 ft and 5-in. liner set through the Hunton lime by Parker Drilling Co. Rig 142. The drilling rig was then released and a conventional completion rig moved in. Following tests of deeper intervals, the Hunton was perforated at 21,663-708 ft (gamma-ray measurements) and 3-1/2-in. tubing was run to the top of the 5-in. liner at 15,578 ft. Since the hole, including the inside of the 3-1/2-in. tubing, was filled with 9.8-lb brine, spotting acid opposite the Hunton perforations called for use of a macaroni string. Therefore, the completion rig was released and a Pressure Control Inc. Hydro-Rig 150 moved in. With the well dead, a tapered string of 1-1/4- and 1-in. tubing was run inside 3-1/2-in. tubing and 5-in. liner to 21,727 ft and stimulation of Hunton perforations through that macaroni string was made. Additional acid treatments and pumping tests were in progress during late Feb.
