The growth of environmental regulations and laws during the 1970's has had a major impact on coal companies. How the Peabody Coal Co. has complied with the environmental land reclamation standards promulgated under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 in the development of a new surface mine in Wyoming is reviewed. The company employs the newest methods and equipment to reclaim lands after mining operations. (11 photos)
