Economic analysis of air classification and ferrous recovery options for model KH 12/18 shredder system

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6606173
A method is presented for analyzing the economics of adding air classification systems for the generation of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) and ferrous metals recovery systems to solid municipal waste shredders. The air classifiers evaluated are the Allis-Chalmers Dual Vortex Air Classifiers, Model DV-20 and Model DV-40. The nominal process rate unit is either 20 TPH or 40 TPH of shredded solid waste. The magnetic recovery device used will be a continuous belt type with movable magnets and variable speed drive. The nominal process rate of this unit will be 20 or 40 TPH of shredded refuse. The economics of such additions involve determining the cost of equipment, buildings, labor, and power, the potential revenues from the sale of RDF or recovered metals, and the potential savings of substituting RDF for fossil fuels.
