Health assessment for Intersil, Inc. /Siemens Components, Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California, Region 9. CERCLIS No. CAD041472341. Preliminary report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6605502
The Intersil, Inc./Siemens Components site was proposed for the National Priorities List by the Update 7 list. The site is located in Cupertino, Santa Clara County, California. The site consists of two adjacent facilities that manufactured semiconductors. Waste solvents from the facilities have contaminated on-site soils and the underlying aquifer. High concentrations of several volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were detected in groundwater from on-site monitoring wells. The use of VOC-contaminated water in the home could lead to exposures by ingestion, inhalation, or dermal contact. Low concentrations of VOCs were detected in water from one well used by the Santa Clara municipal water system. However, the concentrations of contaminants in water from this well do not pose a significant health risk. The site is of potential public health concern because of possible human exposure to site-related hazardous substances. However, there are no data to indicate that the public is currently being exposed to site-related contaminants at levels of health concern.
