The site is on the National Priorities List. The Applied Materials site is located in Santa Clara, Santa Clara County, California. In 1983, analysis of a ground water sample from a shallow monitoring well located downgradient of three underground storage tanks on the west side of Applied Materials Building 1 detected elevated concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The site is of potential public health concern because significant human exposed to VOCs or mercury may occur via oral (ingestion), dermal, or inhalation exposure to contaminated ground water during household use, if ground water is not remediated to levels below public health concern.
