Elastic scattering and charged-particle multiplicity in. pi. /sup +/p interactions at 32 GeV/c

Experimental results on elastic scattering and the charged-particle multiplicity in ..pi../sup +/p interactions at 32 GeV/c are reported. The total cross section for elastic ..pi../sup +/p scattering has been measured (3.37 +- 0.13 mb), as has the differential cross section dsigma/dt; the results are compared with data for other energies. The topological cross sections for ..pi../sup +/p interactions at 32 GeV/c have been measured. The moments of the multiplicity distribution have been determined. The variation of these moments with the energy is discussed, in terms of modified KNO scaling and other approaches.
