Wolfenstein parametrization reexamined
- Sektion Physik, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet Muenchen, Theresienstrasse 37, D-80333 Munich (Germany)
The Wolfenstein parametrization of the 3[times]3 Kobayashi-Maskawa (KM) matrix [ital V] is modified by keeping its unitarity up to an accuracy of [ital O]([lambda][sup 6]). This modification can self-consistently lead to the off-diagonal asymmetry of [ital V], [vert bar][ital V][sub [ital i][ital j]][vert bar][sup 2][minus][vert bar][ital V][sub [ital j][ital i]][vert bar][sup 2]=[ital Z] [ital tsum][sub [ital k]] [epsilon][sub [ital i][ital j][ital k]] with [ital Z][approx][ital A][sup 2][lambda][sup 6](1[minus]2[rho]), which is comparable in magnitude with the Jarlskog parameter of [ital CP] violation [ital J][approx][ital A][sup 2][lambda][sup 6][eta]. We constrain the ranges of [ital J] and [ital Z] by using the current experimental data, and point out that the possibility of a symmetric KM matrix has almost been ruled out.
