Excitation of [sup 77]Se[sup [ital m]], [sup 79]Br[sup [ital m]], and [sup 191]Ir[sup [ital m]] by [sup 137]Cs [gamma] rays

Excitation of the 17.4 s [sup 77]Se[sup [ital m]], 4.9 s [sup 79]Br[sup [ital m]], and 4.9 s [sup 191]Ir[sup [ital m]] isomers by [gamma] rays of a strong [sup 137]Cs source was observed for the first time. Using a 67 TBq (1800 Ci) source for irradiation, isomeric activities were measured by means of [gamma] spectrometry. Identifying principal activation levels, photoexcitation cross sections were determined, allowing level lifetimes to be deduced.
