A procedure is presented to calculate the partial and total conversion widths of [Xi] hypernuclear states produced in the ([ital K][sup [minus]],[ital K][sup +]) reaction on typical targets ([sup 12]C and [sup 16]O). The final state after the [Xi][sup [minus]][ital p][r arrow][Lambda][Lambda] conversion is classified into three types according to the bound and/or continuum two [Lambda]'s: double-[Lambda] sticking, single-[Lambda] sticking, and no sticking. The probabilities leading to these final states are evaluated as a function of the [Xi]-nucleus potential depth [ital V][sub 0][sup [Xi]]. A possible final state with a neutron emission is also considered. It is confirmed that the interaction between the [Xi] particle and a proton in the deep 0[ital s] orbit plays an important role to bring about the double-[Lambda] sticking. The calculation shows that the double-[Lambda] and single-[Lambda] sticking probabilities are sensitive to the strength of [ital V][sub 0][sup [Xi]], which suggests that the observation of these probabilities provides us with a useful indicator for [Xi][sup [minus]] hypernuclear bound states.
