Corrosion inhibiting composition comprising 4-ethyl-- 1-octyn--3-ol
The incroporation of a small amount of 4-ethyl--1-- octyne--3-ol in aqueous organic acid solutions has been found to have the desirable property of inhibiting or substantially preventing the corrosive action of the acid upon a metal surface. Thus, such a corrosion inhibitor is useful in acidizing of oil wells. This material is advantageous in that it can be used over a wide and useful concentration range. In general, it has been found that a concentration of 4-ethyl--1-octyn--3-ol between 0.0125-0.5% 25-0.5% by wt of the corrosive solution of the acid corrosive solution is an effective and desirable corrosion inhibiting concentration. The concentration between 0.05-0.2% is of particular advantage. For corrosive systems at elevated temperatures above approximately 66$C up to 100$C, an inhibitor concentration greater than 0.2% is most effective. This inhibitor is soluble and compatible with other materials usually added to such aqueous acid systems. (11 claims)
