Charge-changing interactions of [sup 197]Au at 10 GeV/nucleon in collisions with targets from H to Pb

Total and elemental charge-changing cross sections for reactions [Delta][ital Z]=+1, [minus]1, [minus]2, [minus]3 were measured for 10 GeV/nucleon [sup 197]Au ions colliding with CH[sub 2], C, Al, Cu, Ag, and Pb targets. Contributions to the total cross sections by the process of electromagnetic dissociation are discussed.
