Titanyl hydrazine carboxylate dihydrate, TiO(N[sub 2]H[sub 3]COO)[sub 2] [center dot] 2H[sub 2]O, zirconyl hyrazine and carboxylate, dihydrate, ZrO(N[sub 2]H[sub 3]COO)[sub 2] [center dot] 2H[sub 2]O and their solid solution, ZrTiO[sub 2] (N[sub 2]H[sub 3]COO)[sub 4] [center dot] 4H[sub 2]O have been prepared for the first time and investigated as precursors to fine particle TiO[sub 2], ZrO[sub 2] and ZrTiO[sub 4] respectively. Titania(anatase) formed has a very high surface area of 110 m[sup 10]/g and zirconium titanate showed very low dielectric loss (4 x 10[sup [minus]]).
