Titania-alumina composites were prepared by various methods. The composite prepared by the mixed gelation method showed the merits of both {gamma}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} and TiO{sub 2} (anatase), and it behaved much better than the {gamma}-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3} alone as the carrier of HDS catalyst or H{sub 2}S adsorbent. Another representative composite was prepared by the sol-gel method. The hydroxide of aluminium alkoxide was peptised directly with TiCl{sub 4} to form a TiO{sub 2}-Al2O{sub 3} composite sol, and then the composite membrane without support was obtained. The sizes of primary particles were around 5nm as characterized by TEM.
