An analysis is given of the energy spectra of hadrons recorded by the Tien Shan installation in extensive atmospheric showers produced by primary cosmic-ray particles with energies E/sub 0/ = 300--500 TeV. Experimental data for hadron energies E/sub a/>0.01E/sub 0/ are compared with model calculations based on various assumptions about the nuclear composition of the primary particles. This comparison shows that, at these energies, the primary cosmic rays contain at least 30% of protons and 50% of nuclei with mass number Aless than or equal to4.
