Environmental impact assessment: enhanced gas recovery by massive hydraulic fracturing in Lincoln County, West Virginia

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6571957
The US DOE has contracted with the Columbia Gas Transmission Corp. to share the cost of a field experiment of the Massive Hydraulic Fracturing (MHF) process for natural gas recovery. The project is part of a larger program to develop reservoir stimulation techniques for natural gas within the Devonian Shale formation of the Appalachian region. The experiment will take place in Lincoln County, W.Va., and will include the preparation of sites and the stimulation of three wells by the MHF process. The size and duration of the program are such that no significant environmental degradation is expected.
