Renaissance in LDC offerings. Innovative and competitive services provide natural gas for electric generation
- Hydra-Co Enterprises, Syracuse, NY (United States)
Clearly, the entire energy industry is going through a transition that exceeds any previous transition. Gas producers, marketers, pipelines and gas distribution companies have turned toward state commissions to better define the extent of the transition and towards capitalizing on business opportunities. Even more important than changing regulation has been the innovation, fierce competition and technology advances that are symptomatic of this new transition that is under full steam in the gas business and is about to burst forth in the electric business. FERC Order 636 which was purported to complete the deregulation of the gas business, has starting working as it should: encouraging innovation and competition. These benefits will filter down to electric generation customers, particularly as gas LDCs, whose gas costs are now their responsibility, struggle to lower those costs through sales in competitive secondary markets. The paper explains how.
