Proceedings of the DOE/Industry advanced research and development Sensor Working Group meeting, Appleton, Wisconsin
The Department of Energy/Industrial Program (DOE/IP) pulp and paper sensor program undertakes long-term, high risk, applied research and exploratory development activities to expand the generic technology base that supports initiatives by both the DOE end-use conservation programs and private industry, to improve the efficiency of energy conversion and utilization systems. The DOE/IP pulp and paper sensor research program is distinct from other research programs in that: (a) it undertakes directed basic research that is problem oriented; (b) it focuses on solving problems common to more than one energy-consuming sector in anticipation of technology needs that impede achievement of efficiency improvements; and (c) it seeks out, encourages and supports innovative ideas/concepts that: (1) show technical promise; (2) show cost effective potential; (3) are too long-term for industry to pursue on its own; and (4) are capable of engaging industry interest for future investment in further development if successful at the proof-of-concept stage.
