Adhesives technology in bonding automotive plastics and composites

Book ·
OSTI ID:6560485
In recent years, the use of plastics in automotive assemblies has increased significantly. A wide variety of plastic materials is available. New materials are continuing to emerge at an increasing rate as the average weight of plastic per car continues to increase steadily. Concurrent with this emergence of new plastic materials is the development of a variety of new adhesives for bonding them. These adhesives, their chemistry and handling, performance and testing, are reviewed relative to new and available composites and thermoplastics. Specific applications and joint design are discussed, as well as future trends.
