The total installed and operating costs for 90Vertical Bar3< sulfur dioxide removal from the flue gas of a new 500 Mw powerplant burning coal containing 3.5Vertical Bar3< of sulfur are calculated at $26,366,000 and $7,279,600/yr, respectively, for the process developed by Saarberg-Hoelter Umwelttechnik G.m.b.H. and licensed to Davy Powergas Inc. A unit, now in the final stage of construction, will treat 25Vertical Bar3< of the flue gas, equivalent to 175 Mw, of the Saarbergwerke Weiher III 700 Mw coal-fired boiler. Future plans call for additional S-H units for treating the total flue gas. The clear alkaline washing solution for absorbing the sulfur dioxide contain calcium hydroxide, formate, and chloride.
